Company Profile

Green Light Construction & Painting is an owner-operated company, focused on preserving and enhancing buildings of character, and specializing in improvements and additions to existing and historic homes.  We are craftspeople who pride ourselves in honest communication with our clients. We prepare thoroughly for each job, choose high-quality sustainable materials, and apply premium quality paints by hand with brushers and rollers, to ensure high value and a lasting beauty you can be proud of.  We believe that when we treat each other with integrity, better results are achieved.

My name is Maxwell, and I own and operate Green Light Construction & Painting. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in fine arts photography and then working in the construction field, I realized I wanted to do things “better” — by bringing my artistic sensibility and a greater attention to detail to all the work I do.

Company History

1997: I launched my own company, Sampson Painting, in Seattle, Washington.

2002: I relocated to Portland.  The next year, in order to apply my skills to a broader array of projects, I expanded my contractor license to include residential general contracting, and I launched a complementary company — Green Light Construction — to undertake building projects.

2005: I was awarded a scholarship by the Historic Preservation League of Oregon to attend the National Historic Preservation Conference in Portland. I participated in the conference and toured properties on the schedule.

2007: I was an Architectural Heritage Center Presenter in the historic paint colors program, speaking at a workshop for homeowners on what to look for in a painting contractor and answering questions on painting processes.

2008: Green Light Construction was a registered participant in the Old House Fair, Sponsored by the Architectural Heritage Center.

2009: After an exhaustive selection process, Sampson Painting was selected as the painting contractor to restore the exterior of the cupola at the top of the historic Pioneer Square Courthouse building.  Pioneer Square Courthouse is considered a gem of historic buildings on the west coast. The cupola was built in 1875 in the Italianate style. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1973 and in 1977 it was designated a National Historic Land Mark. For this project, we received training in “sand painting,” a technique that simulates a stone texture on exterior wooden surfaces of historic buildings.

2009: Green Light Construction and Sampson Painting participated in the Build It Green Fair at Eco House in Portland.

2009: The Sampson Painting and Green Light Construction companies were merged to form Green Light Construction & Painting.
