Company History

Maxwell started Sampson Painting in 1997. After graduating from the University of Oregon in fine arts and working in the painting field. He wanted to do things better with greater attention to detail. We are a small painting company dedicated to doing quality work and preserving buildings of character. We achieve this through thorough preparation work and applying premium quality paints by hand, using brush and roller. We have a small crew. We hire and train motivated craftspeople and are committed to creating a diverse workforce of people interested in continuing the craft of fine painting. We care about the health of our workers in the same way we care about historic buildings. We operate with safety and care on all projects.

1997: Sampson painting began in Seattle, Washington.

2002: Sampson painting relocates to Portland, Oregon."

2003: We expanded our license to include residential general construction in cooperation with Green Light Construction in order to apply our detail and quality workmanship to a greater array of projects. Our company is a historic green building company.

2005: Awarded scholarship pass to National Historic Preservation Conference in Portland by the Historic Preservation League of Oregon. Attended conference and toured properties on conference schedule.

2007: Architectural Heritage Center presenter in historic paint colors program. Led a workshop for homeowners on what to look for in a painting contract and answered questions on the painting process.

2008: Registered participant of the Old House Fair June 28, 2008.
